Where art is all about the process…

Our Approach Under the Reggio Emilia Philosophy

The process is where the magic happens. The children can experiment, combine, compare, contrast, discover, problem solve and practice using materials in various ways.

The classes are guided by these principles:

  1. The image of the child
  2. Relationships and community
  3. The 100 languages of children
  4. The environment as the third teacher
  5. The role of the teacher

The Image of the Child

Children are viewed as researchers, collaborators, enquirers, and co-constructors of their own learning.

The One Hundred Languages of Children

Children are encouraged to communicate using all the 100 languages. Beyond verbal and written there are drawing, painting, sculpting, building and many more.

Community & Relationships

Collaboration! Many projects are structured around small groups so that the children can interact as peers and see each other as active members of the group. Children are able to lead their art experiences without being pressured that their work is wrong or should look a certain way.

The Environment as the 3rd Teacher

The environment is an intentionally designed space that inspires curiosity, creativity, exploration, and engagement.

The Role of the Teacher

Teachers listen, support, and are Co-collaborators on the artistic journey of the child. The teachers guide children through experiences, discovery, and problem solving.

About the Teacher

Hello, my name is Alicia Redifer. Five years ago, recognizing the need for educational innovation, Reggio and Co was born! I am so proud to be one of the cofounders of this beautiful school and its life changing philosophy. With 25 years of preschool teaching experience, I currently teach in the pre K3 classroom with four- and five-year-olds although I have experience with children of all ages.  I thrive on experimentation, problem solving, and process art and I’m eager to share this journey with your children!
